It was Monday, December 8, the last day of classes for students at Homewood and the SEE for yourself Monday campaign launched its finals survival activities. In brutally cold temperatures, the SEE partners gave away water bottles stuffed with tips on how to reduce stress and healthy snacks, like apples, cider, and bananas (because even though they are seasonal around here, some people don’t like apples).  Literature on several health topics was available. The launch served as a reminder to all students that it’s important to take care of yourself, especially during finals, by getting sufficient sleep, exercising and eating nutritiously.

Students who wore their SEE t-shirts received a free gift certificate to Dominion Ice Cream, a local ice cream shop that makes vegetable ice cream.  Not surprisingly, there weren’t any takers in the 20-plus degree weather.  The event moved over to the O’Conner Recreation Center in the afternoon where students received free massages as well as the other goodies.

The SEE for yourself Monday campaign seeks to increase the number of Hopkins students who utilize campus resources to learn about and/or adopt a healthier lifestyle (defined as maintaining a proper balance of desired weight (BMI), consistent exercise, proper sleep, and nutritious eating).  For more information, visit the Center for Health Education and Wellness (CHEW) website.
