Hospital Discharge Rates for Non-traumatic Lower Extremity Amputation per 1,000 Diabetic Population, by Level of Amputation and Age, United States, 2005
In 2005, the hospital discharge rates for non-traumatic lower extremity amputation (LEA) among persons with diabetes increased with age for all levels of LEA, and the largest difference by age occurred in people who had amputation above knee level (0.4 per 1000 for aged 0–64 vs. 2.3 per 1,000 for aged 75 and older). Within each age group, the amputation rates were highest for toe LEAs.
