NATIONAL MEDIATION BOARD

Re: United Airlines and ALPA Reach a Tentative Agreement

A tentative agreement was reached on Saturday evening in a dispute over the renegotiation of the collective bargaining contract between United Airlines and its pilots represented by the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA). NMB chairman Ernest DuBester oversaw the mediation effort to resolve the dispute between the carrier and its pilots. The parties applied for the Board's mediation services in April and mediated sessions between the parties began in May, with the assistance of mediators Jack Kane and Linda Puchala. During the past week, intensive settlement efforts were directed by NMB chief of staff Stephen E. Crable.

Details of the agreement were withheld pending its final approval by the ALPA master executive committee and ratification by the pilots.

United is the nations' largest airline, operating more than 2330 daily flights on a route network which spans the globe. The airline serves 139 destinations in 26 countries and two US territories.
