[Northwest Airlines and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 2000 released the following statement concerning their conclusion of a tentative agreement reached in mediation.]

RE: NORTHWEST AIRLINES/IBT FLIGHT ATTENDANT'S TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 2000 and Northwest Airlines announced today that they have reached a tentative agreement on a new five-year contract for some 11,000 Northwest flight attendants.

"This is the agreement that our members sent us to negotiate," said Billie Davenport, Local 2000 president. "We are proud to recommend it to our brothers and sisters for ratification."

"Our flight attendants are skilled safety professionals and at the forefront of our efforts to provide excellent customer service," said Doug Steenland, Northwest executive vice president. "We are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement on a new contract that reflects their importance to Northwest."

Details of the tentative agreement were not released pending distribution of materials to IBT members. Local 2000 will conduct a ratification vote on the terms of the tentative agreement and expects to set the procedures and timetable for such a vote shortly. Both parties credited the work of the National Mediation Board under the auspices of board chair Maggie Jacobsen and federal mediator Laurette Piculin as important in reaching this agreement.
