Description: Online Version of Brill's 11 volume Encyclopaedia of Islam, 2nd Edition, containing more than 13,000 articles on every aspect of Islamic civilization and culture, from 'Abābda to Zurna. The database includes figures, drawings, genealogical tables, maps, and fully-searchable biographies. Topics mostly deal with the pre-modern period (art, religion, history, law, philosophy, politics, distinguished Muslims, tribes and dynasties, crafts and sciences, geography, and ethnography), but some entries are contemporary. The Encyclopedia focuses on the following geographic areas: the old Arabo-Islamic empire; the Islamic countries of Iran, Central Asia, the Indian sub-continent and Indonesia; the Ottoman Empire; and all current Islamic states.
