PRESS RELEASE
Save Up to $2,000 Sailing the Seas with Smithsonian Journeys
Dec. 12, 2008

Next year Smithsonian Journeys is offering up to $2,000 off original pricing on multiple cruises. With an array of destinations from the Far East to America’s backyard, travelers can visit somewhere new or even a past favorite. These savings are available for a limited period, making now the perfect time for travelers of all ages to explore culture and history aboard ships offering every amenity to cruise in comfort.

Travelers can embark the luxury liner Crystal Serenity for the new program “Shakespeare at Sea,” a trans-Atlantic educational seminar from May 23-June 3, 2009. On the journey from Miami to Lisbon, Portugal, Smithsonian guests will enjoy exclusive lectures and performances to gain fresh insight and understanding of the works of Shakespeare. Joining the cruise will be lecturers Lynn Robson of Oxford University and independent Shakespeare scholar Robin Williams, along with actors John de Lancie and Marnie Mosiman who will perform in three unique productions onboard.

On travelers’ days at sea, 14 seminar topics will be offered, ranging from the basics of “Why Read Shakespeare” to more in-depth lectures. Some of these special subjects include the hidden symbolism in Shakespeare’s plays to the Bard’s constant evocation of twins and double-play in his works. Stops made during the voyage include Bermuda, the reputed inspirational location of Shakespeare’s final play “The Tempest,” and the Azores for a relaxing day to explore the pristine landscapes of the North Altantic’s most remote archipelago.

Pricing for “Shakespeare at Sea” starts at $5,999, with savings of up to $2,000 per person on select cabins. Save $1,000 per person on “Currents of Change: Japan and China” aboard the 128-passenger Clipper Odyssey, April 25-May 9, 2009; and $700 per person on select cabins until Jan. 31, 2009, aboard Le Levant for “The Black Sea,” Oct. 7-16, 2009. All Journeys’ special offers are available for a limited time and can be found online at www.SmithsonianJourneys.org.
