The Eastern Area Modeling Consortium (EAMC) is a multi-agency coalition of researchers, fire managers, air-quality managers, and natural resource managers at the Federal, State, and local levels working to

• Increase understanding of fire behavior and smoke dispersion
• Expand knowledge of the physics of fire-atmosphere interactions on all scales
• Enhance ability to predict and respond to the dangers of prescribed fires and wildfires
• Develop products and transfer new technologies related to national and regional fire-weather and air-quality dynamics

The EAMC was founded in 2001 under the auspices of the interagency National Fire Plan to provide research products and associated technology to serve the needs of the fire management community, air resource managers, scientists, and policymakers.

Hot Topics

The 5th Annual Eastern Area Modeling Consortium Workshop and Meeting will be held in Okemos, MI on 20-21 June 2006. A one-day training workshop is scheduled for the first day of the annual meeting and will cover topics related to smoke/air quality modeling, fire-weather processes, and small-scale fire-atmosphere interactions important for fire behavior. Discussions will focus on how to incorporate EAMC smoke transport and fire-weather predictive tools into operational decision-making and planning. The second day of the annual meeting will be devoted to informal discussions or short presentations on current and potential future EAMC research and product development projects.
