I am not sure what the best way to describe 2008 is, but it will certainly be a year for future reference. While the weather was wreaking havoc this spring, the one thing that it did not do was bring soybean rust to Iowa.
 
Soybean rust highlight of 2008: Even with soybeans maturing weeks later than normal, soybean rust again was not reported in Iowa!

Update from the South: As expected, new soybean rust finds have cropped up this past week. During this past month, soybean rust has been reported in nine counties in Alabama; seven counties in Arkansas; ten counties in Georgia, five counties in Florida; one county in Louisiana; 13 counties in Mississippi, and one county in Texas.

9/10/2008   Update - 9/10/08

Update from the south: Several new sites in Arkansas, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida were reported this past week. Again, this was expected. Perfect weather for soybean rust development continues in many of these areas. Louisiana abandoned their scouting efforts as they recover from Hurricane Gustav and are hoping that Ike continues to track west.
