Conservation: A family tradition

Jay Kehne is an RC&D Coordinator in Okanogan, Washington. The best thing I enjoy about working for the NRCS is that I know we are helping people today, providing hope for tomorrow's generations, and building on what many other employees have done in the past to give people and communities the opportunities to preserve precious natural resources.  My father, Lewis Kehne, went to work for SCS after World War II.  He helped build farm ponds in Nebraska, design flood control projects in Hawaii, and finished his career working to conserve precious farmlands in Washington State.  As a second generation NRCS employee I am very proud of his accomplishments and hope that what I have done as a Soil Scientist, District Conservationist and now an RC&D Coordinator in my 30 year career will somehow compare to the great work he did to help people make their place better.  So for me, it's about generations, generations of farmers and ranchers and communities being able to continue and improve on what they do, and generations of employees, helping them to do that.  What a privilege and joy it is to go to work each day!
