NOTES: Excessive
alcohol drinkers were defined as those who consumed greater than or equal
to 5 drinks in one day at least 12 times during the past 12 months.
The analysis excluded 404 adults with unknown alcohol consumption.
Estimates are age-sex-adjusted to the 2000 U.S. standard population using
four age groups: 18-24 years, 25-44 years, 45-64 years, and 65 years and
over.
DATA SOURCE: Based on
data collected from January through June in the Sample Adult Core component
of the 2002 National Health Interview Survey.

The age-sex-adjusted percent of adults with
excessive alcohol consumption during the past 12 months was 10.6% for white
non-Hispanic persons, 7.1% for black non-Hispanic persons, and 10.3% for
Hispanic persons.

Black non-Hispanic persons were less likely to
drink excessively than white non-Hispanic persons and Hispanic persons.
