Dakota Cowboy Poetry
Gathering in Medora
Founded by cowboy poet and North Dakotan Bill
Lowman and Everett Albers, North Dakota Humanities Executive
Director, the Dakota Cowboy Poetry Gathering marked its 13th
consecutive run in 1999, making it the oldest ongoing regional
cowboy gathering in the nation. It consistently draws an average of
50 participants from a dozen states. A fresh set of performers is
featured each spring -- over Memorial Day weekend -- something that
sets the Medora event apart from other cowboy poetry gatherings.
The veterans are always welcome to return and frequently precede
the big-name performers booked on the night shows.
