Formula Grants
Primary examples of CSREES formula grants
include:
- Hatch and Evan-Allen, earmarked for
research and education activities.
- Smith-Lever and the Renewable Resources
Extension Act, earmarked for extension
programs.
- Animal Health and Disease Research
Program, earmarked for research activities
in that area.
- McIntire-Stennis, earmarked for forestry
research.
- Multistate Research Program, earmarked
for regional research efforts addressed
by multiple institutions to solve common
problems.
Hatch and Smith-Lever funds are available
to the eligible universities in each state,
the District of Columbia, and the insular
areas ( U.S. territories). The Evans-Allen
and certain extension formula grants are
available to the eligible historically
black land-grant universities and Tuskegee
University.
Animal health and disease research funds
are available to accredited U.S. schools
and colleges of veterinary medicine. McIntire-Stennis
funds are available to schools of forestry
with degree programs in that subject matter
area, as designated by the governor of
each state.
CSREES administers USDA's agricultural
research and education programs within
the U.S. university system as authorized
by various legislative acts. To continue
to receive these funds, cooperating institutions
must file plans of work, financial reports,
accomplishment reports, and status reports
on an ongoing basis—as well as provide
matching state and county funds.
