Charles Valentine Riley Memorial Lecture Series Launched

The first Charles Valentine Riley Memorial Lecture will take place on Thursday March 2, 2006 at the George Bush Presidential Library, in College Station, Texas. This year's lecture and colloquium topic is "Technological Change in Agriculture: National and International Instability." The lecture series is cosponsored by the Riley Memorial Foundation and the Office of International Agriculture at Texas A&M University and will be held in conjunction with the Borlaug Fellows Colloquium.

Charles Valentine Riley was a visionary. The impact of his work continues to be felt more than a century following his death. For example:

• He recommended establishing the Office of Experiment Stations and the Branch of Economic Ornithology.
• He helped save the California citrus industry by introducing the Australian vedalia beetle to combat scale insects.
