Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Question: How do I know if I am accredited?

Answer: If you are not sure of your accreditation status, call the Area Office in your State. They will look up the information on the national database. All requirements must be met before you can become accredited. Although you may have completed the Core Orientation, unless you filled out the application (Form 1-36A) and received written approval from the AVIC, you are not accredited.

Question: If I received my core orientation in Virginia but plan to perform accredited work in Florida, do I need to redo my orientation?

Answer: You do not need to receive core orientation; however, you may need to have a supplemental orientation specific to issues relevant in Florida. In this case, you would contact the Area Office in Florida and they would instruct you on completing the process.

Question: I graduated several years ago and think I received an orientation at that time but never became accredited. How do I apply for accreditation now, and do I need to take the orientation over?

Answer: If you graduated before November 1992, it would be necessary to attend the core orientation. However, if you graduated after that date, you need to contact the Area Office to find out what requirements you have already met and what requirements need to be fulfilled.

Question: If I am already accredited in Maryland can I perform accreditation work in North Carolina?

Answer: You cannot perform work in North Carolina until you receive authorization from the AVIC in that State. Contact the Area Office in North Carolina and they will send you the Supplemental Information Sheet and inform you of any other requirement that must be met before you are authorized to perform accredited work.
