Tox Town
- The National Library of Medicine's Tox Town web site offers a new Hurricane Katrina web page that lists environmental health concerns that may be important in the post-disaster environment and during clean-up efforts. Topics include mold, pest control, worker health, drinking water, trash burning and many more. The page also points to background information on some of the toxic chemicals in the news. Following the Hurricane Katrina disaster and flooding, there has been much concern about the potential impact on people's health, including news reports on what chemicals might be in the flood waters or left behind as the waters recede.
Tox Town's basic information on toxic chemicals and environmental health risks is suggested for students (high school and up), educators, and the concerned public who want to learn more about these topics. Tox Town's four neighborhood scenes use color, graphics, sounds and animation to add interest to learning about connections between chemicals, the environment and the public's health.
