Thomas Nast's renowned illustrations in Harper's Weekly
earned him the reputation as the nineteenth century's most influential
political cartoonist. His popular editorial cartoons attacked the
inadequacies of the post-Civil War Reconstruction era and worked
to expose the political corruption of the infamous "Tweed Ring"
in New York City's Tammany Hall.
