The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is the partner/coordinator of the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) "On Target For Life". This nationally acclaimed youth archery program implements a curriculum-based archery education program into the public/private school system through the physical education department. The NASP has been successfully introduced in 40+ states. Illinois was one of the first 10 states registered in the program.

The curriculum will fit teaching requirements and it meets all ISBE learning Goals, Standards and Benchmarks. Plus, one of the exciting aspects of the program is that we have found that the archery program develops confidence and promotes a higher self-esteem to the students who are not normally involved in activities at school.

*Research shows that 7 out of 8 dropouts are not involved in activities in school. We have found that archery can help get all students involved and help them feel good about themselves!

The NASP training program, presented by IDNR instructors, will certify teachers to become NASP Level 1 Instructors, with classes scheduled statewide.

The IDNR is hosting a statewide tournament for schools enrolled in the NASP. This annual tournament is in the spring of each year. Please contact Dave Cassens at 217-785-7742 for information concerning the tournament.

Funding needed for the equipment used in the NASP is available through grants from the IDNR and National Wild Turkey Federation.
