Sequoyah Fellows (Lifetime Members)
The AISES Lifetime Membership program was named in memory of Sequoyah, the great Cherokee Innovator. Sequoyah developed the Cherokee alphabet and syllabary. In 1821, the alphabet and syllabary were perfected. As a result, the Cherokee Nation became literate in less than one year. In recognition of his contribution, the Cherokee Nation awarded Sequoyah a silver medal and he continued to serve the Cherokee as a statesman and diplomat until the time of his death.
Who Are Sequoyah Fellows?
The Sequoyah Fellowship offers individuals a symbolic way of embracing the spirit of Sequoyah. Individuals that make a one-time membership payment of $1,000 or more to AISES become Sequoyah Fellows. Through the thoughtful support of Sequoyah Fellows, we continue to contribute to the growth of professionals, students, teachers, and academic communities. AISES programs have reached thousands of American Indians and sparked their creativity, interest, self-awareness and leadership in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
Sequoyah Fellows are also lifetime members of AISES. For their one-time membership fee of $1,000, AISES' Sequoyah Fellows receive:
- A metal Lifetime Membership Card, as well as a laminated membership card with the member’s AISES identification number and membership classification.
- A Sequoyah Medallion engraved with the individual's name and the year granted Sequoyah Fellow status. Many Sequoyah Fellows wear their medallions at AISES events, and may be identified by the orange and black ribbon attached to their medallion.
New Sequoyah Fellows may choose to be presented with their engraved Sequoyah medallion at the Sequoyah Breakfast & Honoring Ceremony, which is held during the annual National AISES Conference, or they may elect to have their medallion mailed directly to them.
- An Al Qöyawayma signed and numbered print. Mr. Qöyawayma is a nationally acclaimed Hopi artist and one of AISES’ founders.
- A lifetime subscription to AISES’ award-winning quarterly magazine, Winds of Change.
- The new Sequoyah Fellows name will be added to the Sequoyah Fellows Recognition Wall displayed at the AISES national office.
Interested In Becoming A Sequoyah Fellow or honoring a friend, family member, employee or co-worker with a Sequoyah Fellowship?
There are three options available for individuals to become an AISES Sequoyah Fellow:
Option #1: One-Time Payment in Full
- One payment in the full amount of $1000.00 paid by check, money order, cash or credit card, in U.S. Dollars.
- Checks should be made payable to AISES.
- Completed Membership Application and payments should be mailed to:

Option #2: Pay online by credit or debit card
Complete Sequoyah membership online.
Option #3: Self Assigned Payment Program
Individuals may choose this option and determine the amount and frequency of their payments over a maximum of twelve months.
- Sequoyah Pledges have a maximum period of twelve (12) months to complete payment of their Sequoyah Fellowship.
- Checks should be made payable to AISES.
- Completed Membership Application and payments should be mailed to:

Other Terms and Conditions
Sequoyah Pledges are not considered Sequoyah Fellows until their obligation is paid in full. An annual membership fee must be paid until Sequoyah pledges are fulfilled. The annual membership fees of past years that were paid to AISES may not be applied to the Sequoyah Fellowship.
Sequoyah Pledges will be asked to sign an acknowledgement of the following terms:
- The yearly membership fee must be paid until pledges are paid in full. Yearly membership fees already paid to AISES may not be applied retroactively to Sequoyah Fellowship membership.
- Monies paid towards a Sequoyah Fellowship pledge are non-refundable. Unfulfilled or forfeited pledges will be used to support AISES programs.

By completing a membership application form, you help us to ensure that you continue to receive the Winds of Change magazine, as well as other mailings regarding AISES activities and events.
Additionally, by providing AISES with the requested demographic and educational information, we can correctly classify your membership status as either General (voting) or Special (non-voting).
