CLEANmp Now Available to Producers in the Eastern U.S.
A voluntary program to help livestock farmers identify and adopt practices that protect the environment is ready to get underway.
The Comprehensive Livestock Environmental Assessment and Nutrient Management Plans, more commonly known as CLEANmp-East, is available to farmers in 27 states in the eastern half of the U.S.; the pilot program was launched in October 2008.
The sister program to CLEANmp-West which was featured in the October 2008 LPE newsletter CLEANmp-East provides livestock producers with confidential environmental assessments of their operations, as well as customized approaches and strategies to reduce air emissions and runoff.
Poultry and livestock operators interested in volunteering for this project can visit the CLEANmp-East website.
The Research Triangle Institute International and the North Carolina State University, with grant funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, are coordinating this program.
