FERTILIZER RESEARCH and EDUCATION PROGRAM:

Fields of Study: Fertilizer materials.
Purpose of Study: To advance environmentally safe and agronomically sound use and handling of fertilizer materials through research, demonstration and education projects. Priority areas include development, testing and demonstration of practical field monitoring tools; education and public information; nutrient/pest interactions; irrigation interactions and water management to reduce groundwater contamination; fertilizer practices for nutrient balance, crop nutrient uptake and partitioning; practical applications of GIS approaches and modeling; and handling, transfer and storage of fertilizer materials. Must be applicable to California.
Eligibility: Citizenship is unrestricted. Individuals or groups may apply, including growers, researchers and educators, federal, state or local government agencies, nonprofit organizations, consultants, resource conservation districts, irrigation districts, commodity research boards, and grower organizations.
Financial Provisions: Maximum $30,000 per year per project, but larger projects will be considered.

Purpose of Study: To support Graduate Students from Latin America, the Caribbean, and the U.S. whose field research career interests concern grassroots development activities among the poor. GRANT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (GAP):

Fields of Study: Research in the natural sciences in the Former Soviet Union (FSU) and the Baltic States.
Purpose of Study: Makes ISF's money transfer, equipment purchase, equipment delivery, travel and grant accounting infrastructure available to non-profit and government organizations wishing to donate resources to the FSU and Baltic States.
Eligibility: ISF will administer third-party grants and donations (minimum $1,500) from non-profit and government organizations in support of non-commercial scholarly research and education programs in the FSU and Baltic countries.
Financial Provisions: Those associated with infrastructure of ISF including exemptions from personal income, VAT, and customs taxes throughout the region, which typically account for 40% of the value of a donation in additional costs. Allows researchers to receive personal support checks which can be exchanged for hard currency in selected banks throughout the FSU and Baltic countries.
