Potomac Viewing Stone Group Exhibit
Members from the Potomac Viewing Stone Group, a regional organization dedicated to stone appreciation, will display viewing stones, suiseki, and scholar’s rocks from their private collections. A member of the club will give a free lecture on Sunday, April 6.

Ikebana International Exhibit
The Washington D.C. Chapter of Ikebana International will exhibit flower arrangements representing a variety of ikebana schools and styles. The installation will change 3 times during the 10-day exhibition. Plan to see them all. Master teachers will give free ikebana demonstrations on Sunday, April 13 and 20 from 1 – 2:30 in the Yoshimura Lecture Demonstration Center.

Bonsai Festival
Co-sponsored by the clubs of the Potomac Bonsai Association and the U.S. National Arboretum, this festival features an indoor exhibit of PBA member trees and a vendor tent filled with bonsai trees and supplies. Free demonstrations sponsored by the Arboretum will be given by leading bonsai artists Shinichi Nakajima from Japan and Californian Cheryl Manning. Visit www.usna.usda.gov for more details.

Spring Kusamono Exhibit
Kusamono are potted arrangements of wild grasses and flowers in unique pots or trays that accompany formal displays of bonsai or viewing stones. This exhibit features plant compositions designed by kusamono artist Young Choe. Ms. Choe will give a free lecture/demonstration on Saturday,May 10, 1 – 2:30 and a kusamono workshop on Saturday, May 31.

WORKSHOP: Introduction to Bonsai
Designed for the beginner, this class will introduce students to the horticultural and aesthetic elements of creating a bonsai. Plant, pot, and soil are all provided. Students should have outdoor space available to grow their creation after leaving the workshop. Bring lunch for a noon break.

Autumn Ikebana Exhibit: Sogetsu School,Washington DC
Sogetsu ikebana style is deeply rooted in Japanese tradition, yet embraces the modern age. Sogetsu promotes an ikebana of no limits in which plant materials of any type are used to create sculptural compositions. A demonstration will be held on Saturday, October 18, 1 – 2:30.

Before going into winter storage, deciduous trees selected from the permanent collection will be featured in a formal display.
