The fruit of four decades of collaboration between bluegrass music's premier historian and photographer, Bluegrass Odyssey offers a fascinating journey into the heart of a quintessentially American musical form.
Speaker Biography: Neil Rosenberg has research interests in the area of music and song (particularly country, bluegrass, and Newfoundland music), Canadian culture, revival movements, ethnomusicology, discography and archival practices. He has produced four major books: "Transforming Tradition: Folk Music Revivals Examined"; "Bluegrass: A History"; "Folklore and Oral History"; and "Bill Monroe and His Blue Grass Boys: An Illustrated Discography." Rosenberg is a Fellow of the American Folklore Society. In 1998 he won a Grammy award for his contribution to the album notes of Smithsonian/Folkways' Anthology of American Folk Music. In 2001 the Folklore Studies Association of Canada honored him with the Marius Barbeau Medal in recognition of his contributions to folklore and ethnology studies in Canada.
Speaker Biography: Carl Fleischhauer holds degrees from Kenyon College and Ohio University. His work experience includes film and video production at West Virginia University and media documentation activities at the American Folklife Center. His publications include the videodisc "The Ninety-Six: A Cattle Ranch in Northern Nevada" and the photographic book "Documenting America, 1935-1943." Today Fleischhauer coordinates the American Memory project at the Library.
