USDA Biotechnology Risk
Assessment Grants Program
The USDA Biotechnology Risk Assessment Grants
Program is co-administered by CSREES and
the Agricultural
Research Service (ARS). National Program
Leaders in CSREES and ARS work together to:
1) write the annual Request for Applications
which sets research priorities for this program
during the current fiscal year, 2) identify
appropriate reviewers for proposals that
are submitted to this program, 3) make final
funding decisions based on recommendations
from the review panel, and 3) sponsor workshops
to disseminate results of funded projects,
obtain stakeholder input for future research
priorities, or discuss current topics related
to the federal regulation of agricultural
biotechnology products.
The USDA Biotechnology Risk Assessment Grants
program is also jointly funded by ARS, CSREES,
and the Forest
Service. These agencies contribute funds
to the USDA Biotechnology Risk Assessment
Grants program by withholding at least 2
percent from outlays for research on biotechnology
within their agencies.
