Government responses to a number of the Council's reports are in the Animal Welfare Publications Section of the Defra Animal Welfare Website.

Recent reports

• FAWC Report on Stockmanship and Farm Animal Welfare - This report was published in June 2007 offering Council's views on good stockmanship. This report addresses the challenge of providing effective education and training for livestock farmers and stockmen and makes a number of recommendations on improvements.
• Report on Welfare Labelling - This report was published in June 2006 offering Council's views on the labelling of livestock-based products in relation to the welfare of farmed animals. It makes recommendations to improve the welfare of farmed animals through appropriate labelling.
• Report on the Welfare Implications of Farm Assurance Schemes - This report was published in June 2005 and looks at farm assurance schemes in relation to the welfare standards experienced by the farm animals from which livestock products are derived. The recommendations in this report are addressed to all those involved in the food supply chain with the objective of strengthening commitment to animal welfare;
• Report on the Welfare of Farmed Animals at Gatherings - This report was published in June 2005 offering Council's views on the welfare of farmed animals at gatherings (and horses in markets, sales and fairs). It makes a number of recommendations that aim to improve the standard of animal welfare at animal gatherings.
• FAWC Report on the Implications of Castration and Tail Docking for the Welfare of Lambs – This report was published in June 2008 and considers the implications of these two operations for the welfare of lambs. It follows up recommendation made in our 1994 Report on the Welfare of Sheep and considers evidence produced since then in reaching its conclusions, which aim to minimise the suffering arising from castration and tail docking.
