The new GBIF Integrated Publishing Tool (IPT) is under development and expected to be available for early release and testing from January 2009.

The main features of this tool allow for more efficient serving and hosting of occurrence data, taxonomic information and data-source metadata. Additionally this tool will allow for easy exploration of data on the provider end through the embedded web-application, and offer access to simple and easy-to-use tools for data cleansing and reporting.

The IPT will continue to support TDWG-defined standards such as TAPIR and the TCS, and offer additional interfaces such as a Web Feature Service ( WFS) interface along with a simple dataset harvesting protocol to allow for easier provision to the global Data Portal. By integrating data provision into a single extensible product, a simple ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution will be readily available to the broadest community to facilitate data contributions.
