The Governing Board is discussed four issue-oriented Campaigns that would be undertaken as group endeavours led by GBIF Participants, and elected officers to serve for the next two years.

On the afternoon of the second day of the meeting, the Board awarded the Ebbe Nielsen Prize to, and heard a presentation by, Paul Flemons.

On Thursday, 18 October, approximately 125 members of the Board and the Dutch scientific community and public attended the Fifth Annual GBIF Science Symposium
