Within the blue box, the user can click on Data Providers and be taken to a links page that lists the institutions who have installed DiGIR data providers and registered them with GBIF.

Within that page, the user can click on "Search Data" (upper right) and enter a number of search criteria. Right now, this opens a query tool developed by the MaNIS network. A GBIF specific data portal is being developed and will enter operational use within the next two months.

By clicking on GBIF Registry the user will be taken to a page that explains how the the UDDI registry works and encourages potential data providers to link to GBIF.

GBIF NODES committee has agreed to establish an operational network based on the DiGIR protocol by the end of 2003. Now it is the time to become a data provider. How? Follow these steps:

  1. Acquire a normal PC and place it safely outside your institution's firewall. (Alternatively, make arrangements to use your institution's web server.)
  2. Download a DiGIR provider package from GBIF.
  3. Install the package, and define your institution's contact details. (This can be done in mere minutes.)
  4. Register the new provider. This is almost automatic and requires just pushing a button and agreeing on a preliminary IPR declaration. (After your registration, the GBIF Helpdesk will seek an endorsement by the relevant GBIF Participant node.)
  5. Link your database(s) to the provider. (This may require a little work - it depends on the shape of your databases. You can start small and add more data and several databases to the provider later.)

It's easy!
