An officially signed GBIF MOU arrived at Governing Board Chair Christoph Haeuser's office on 4 September 2003, making Colombia an Associate Participant in GBIF.

Dr. Haeuser welcomed Colombia to GBIF in a letter that also contained his invitation to the Governing Board meeting in October. Colombia will be represented by the Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute, which will also be its GBIF Node.
