The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland has contributed €20,000 to the GBIF Supplementary Fund for 2003. The funds are directed toward assisting representatives from developing countries to attend GBIF Governing Board meetings. The Finnish contribution will be of great help to GBIF in its outreach and capacity building efforts.
The Supplementary Fund, unlike GBIF's core budget, can receive donations from any source (individuals, foundations, etc.), and these can be designated by the donor for use in a variety of ways, as long as the purpose serves the stated goals of GBIF.
