The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has committed itself to make a substantial contribution to the GBIF Supplementary Fund, designated to assist developing countries to benefit fully from GBIF's activities. The donation of 500,000 Danish kroner (~ USD$81,000) will be of great help to GBIF in its outreach and capacity building efforts. The Supplementary Fund, unlike GBIF's core budget, can receive donations from any source (individuals, foundations, etc.), and these can be designated by the donor for use in a variety of ways, as long as the purpose serves the stated goals of GBIF. GBIF will use the Danish funds to finance travel for representatives from developing countries to various of GBIF's meetings and training sessions.
