Copenhagen, 12 June 2003: The Bikubenfonden (Bikuben Foundation) today announced that the Zoological Museum of the University of Copenhagen will receive the 2003 Danske Museum Prisen (Danish Museum Prize) of 500,000 Danish kroner (ca. US$81,000). The Prize is awarded each year by the Bikubenfonden to a Danish museum that is particularly forward-thinking in its programs and activities. The award announcement cited the Zoological Museum for its efforts to bring the GBIF Secretariat to Denmark. Professor Henrik Enghoff, Director of the Museum, head of the Danish GBIF node DanBIF, and member of the Danish GBIF delegation, accepted the award. In his remarks, he noted that at least part of the funds will be used to convert important biodiversity specimen data held by the Zoological Museum to digital format so that it can be accessed via the GBIF network.
