Speaker Biography: Alma Powell is the cochair of America's Promise, a diverse and growing alliance of nearly 500 national organizations dedicated to teaching today's youth five basic hallmarks of building character and competence. She is the author of "America's Promise," a book that illustrates for children the five resources that they should have as tools to become exemplary adults. She has also written a companion board book for toddlers, "The Little Red Wagon." Powell, who is recipient of an honorary doctor of humane letters from Emerson College and the Civic Change Award from the Pew Partnership for Civic Change, is the wife of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, founding chairman of America's Promise.
