2 . How can I access my NIH E-mail via Outlook Web Access (OWA)?

• Open a web browser and go to https://mail.nih.gov.
• Enter NIH\username (Example: NIH\doejohn) in the "Domain\user name:" box.
• Enter your NIH Domain password in the "Password:" box.
• Click "Log On".

3 . How can I help the NIH stop and report SPAM?
Visit the http://antispam.nih.gov web site to find out how to combat spam. If you are using Outlook 2003, there is a link on the page that allows you to download a "plug-in". The plug-in provides an easy way to report spam messages to the email administrators.

4 . How do I check the size of my Mailbox (PC Only)?

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Find "Outlook Today – Mailbox – Last, First (NIH/IC)" or "Mailbox – Last, First (NIH/IC)".
  3. Right click on it, and select Properties.
  4. Click on the "Folder Size..." button at the bottom left of the "Outlook Today" window.
  5. To the right of "Total Size (including subfolders):" will be displayed the size of the entire mailbox.
  6. In the window below, each Mailbox subfolder and size is displayed.

5 . Why is my name listed twice in the NIH Global Address List?
Cause:
Your permanent NIH email address is not setup to forward to your NIH Exchange Mailbox
Resolution:
Open Outlook
Send a blank email to getpass@nih.gov
After a few moments, an automated email will be returned to you with the subject "NIH Directory Access Information"
Open the email and note your "Alias" and "Password"
Open a web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, etc…) Go to https://directory.nih.gov/sbin/phwww/ph.nih.gov?!tochange
Enter your alias, and password where prompted. Leave "Alias of entry to change…" blank Click the Enter button Change email address to your NIH email address (i.e. doejohn@mail.nih.gov) and update any other personal information Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Change Item button Your duplicate name will be removed the next day

6 . Why calendar/appointment reminder pop-ups working ?
Why aren't my calendar/appointment reminder pop-ups working (PC Only)?
Cause:
At least one corrupt reminder on the Exchange server
Resolution:
Exit Outlook and close all open messages Click Start -> Run Clear the run box
Type: "Outlook.exe /cleanreminders" (without quotes) Click OK The reminders service will be reset and then Outlook will open In some cases the reset will take up to 30 minutes to take effect

7 . Why can't my co-workers see my appointment/meeting ?
Why can't my co-workers see my appointment/meeting availability (PC Only)?

Your free/busy time has not been updated appropriately on the Exchange server
Resolution:
Exit Outlook and close all open messages Click Start -> Run Clear the run box
Type: "Outlook.exe /cleanfreebusy" (without quotes) Click OK The free/busy time will be reset and then Outlook will open In some cases the reset will take up to 30 minutes to take effect

8 . What version of Outlook am I using (PC Only)?
Open Outlook
Select Help -> About Microsoft (Office) Outlook The first line will have a year, which is the version (i.e. 2000, 2002, 2003)

9 . How do I add a personal/archive folder to Outlook (PC Only)?
For Outlook 2002 or Outlook 2003:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Select File -> Data File Management
  3. Click Add…
    • For Outlook 2002 -> Select "Personal Folders File (.pst)"
    • For Outlook 2003 -> Select "Office Outlook Personal Folders File (.pst)"
  4. Click OK
  5. At the top, click the drop-down menu next to "Save in:" and select your personal network/home drive (i.e. H:\)
  6. Clear the "File name:" box and then type in a file name (i.e., "myarchive")
  7. Click OK
  8. Click OK on the "Create Microsoft Personal Folders" window
  9. Click Close on the "Outlook Data Files" window
  10. Look for "Personal Folders" in your Outlook folder list
  11. You can right click to create new folders and items can be dragged and dropped within the "Personal Folders"

10 . How to add a calendar/inbox to my Outlook?
NOTE: The customer with the intention of sharing their calendar must enable share permissions. Instructions to add share permissions can be found here:
i. On the View menu, click Folder List if the list is not displayed.
ii. Select the desired folder in the Folder List.
iii. On the File menu, point to Folder, and then click Properties for the folder name.
iv. Click the Permissions tab.
v. Click Add to add the name of the user that you want to grant access to, or select Default.
vi. Set the desired permissions, and then click OK.

Open Outlook
Right click "Outlook Today – Mailbox -- Doe, John (NIH/IC)"
Select Properties
Click the Advanced button on the "Mailbox Properties" window Click the Advanced tab Click Add… Type in the name of the person or mailbox you would like to add (i.e. Sally Doe) Click OK, select correct mailbox if prompted and click OK Click OK on "Microsoft Exchange Server" window Click OK on "Mailbox Properties" window Look for "Mailbox – Doe, Sally (NIH/IC)" in your folder list, and click the "+" sign next to the mailbox name
