CDC Health Protection Research Initiative: Evaluation of Workplace Health Promotion Research Projects (R01)
In FY 2007, CDC awarded five new workplace research grants for $1.3 million. The purpose of this funding is to build upon and expand research on worksite health promotion activities that were funded by RFA CD-04-002 (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-CD-04-002.html). The preliminary results yielded creative and effective ways to improve employee health with potential business benefits of reduced work absenteeism, reduced health care costs and improved health. Five of the original 21 studies are being funded for an additional two years in order to further evaluate in more detail these important outcomes. It is intended that research will contribute by: evaluating the public health impact of worksite health interventions; developing data that can be used to influence worksite health policies and practices; and identifying evidence-based worksite health promotion interventions that have the potential for translation from research to practice.
