In FY 2002, CDC funded investigator-initiated participatory research on community-based approaches to prevention. To encourage the translation of research into practice, the participatory approach requires the researchers to engage practitioners, policy makers, and others in the community who will be the ultimate users of the results in defining the research questions of most importance to their community, and in interpreting and applying the study findings in their own community. Research projects from across the country were funded covering a broad range of important public health topics.
