Fresh-Market Bananas:
Background Statistics and Information

Based on the 2002 Census of Agriculture, 88 percent of all the U.S. farms producing bananas on a commercial scale were in Hawaii, with over 90 percent of total production acreage. 

  • Banana harvested acreage in Hawaii:
        2005: 980 acres
        2006: 1,000 acres
        2007: 1,000 acres

  • Banana average yields per acre in Hawaii:
        2005: 21,300 pounds
        2006: 20,000 pounds
        2007: 21,000 pounds

  • Farm value of fresh-market banana production in Hawaii:
        2005: $9.175 million

        2007: $8.820 million
