in Funding for Public Lands

On January 8th, the state legislature announced that they would withdraw funding for land purchase and management in Florida immediately. The final legislative vote is Wednesday, January 14. The FNPS tracks legislation and public policies that affect the conservation of Florida Native Plants. Issues that affect our mission and that call for some form of immediate action are presented in Action Alerts. These alerts are provided to make you aware of issues that relate to the preservation, conservation, and restoration of Florida's native plants.

Call for 2009 FNPS Conference Scientific Papers and Poster Presentations  
The 2008 Annual Conference of the Florida Native Plant Society will be held at the West Palm Beach Marriott, May 21-24, 2009. FNPS Research Grant Application  
The Florida Native Plant Society maintains an Endowment Grant program for the purpose of funding research on native plants.  These are grants in the amount of up to $2500, awarded for a 1-year period, and intended to support research that forwards the mission of the Florida Native Plant Society which is "to promote the preservation, conservation, and restoration of the native plants and native plant communities of Florida."    Please click here for additional detail.

FNPS landscape ordinance guidelines available for download  
These landscape ordinance guidelines are intended to be used by local governments that wish to adopt or amend their existing landscape ordinance to encourage or require the use of appropriate native vegetation in all landscaped areas. This document provides sample language that can be adopted (in whole or in part) by a local government that wants to promote these goals and acquire the benefits of appropriate native landscaping.Click here to view the model ordinance in pdf format. FNPS President, Gene Kelly, receives response from USDA regarding invasive insects and plant diseases  
In a letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Mr. Kelly requests immediate action to expedite rulemaking that would revise the regulations governing the importation of plants to the United States to stress the importance of regulating the introduction of invasive insects and plant diseases more closely.   To read the letter containing Mr. Kelly’s recommendations, Click Here   To read the response from the USDA to Mr. Kelly's letter, Click Here
