GBIF will work with the Integrated Project ALARM (Assessing LArge scale environmental Risks for biodiversity with tested Methods)to encourage the development of a publicly accessible knowledge base on Pollinators. This knowledge base will not be centralised but rather will be a distributed network of interoperable databases. Steps in this development include documenting data needs of potential users, and initiating the development of primary data content to meet these needs. In addition, the partners will promote the recommendation that proposals for funding for biodiversity research on pollinators include a plan for the maintenance and sharing of the data generated during the proposed research.

The MoC that formalises this relationship went into effect on 9 August 2007.
