The GBIF Nodes in the Netherlands (NLBIF) and Belgium (BeBIF) are jointly organising hands-on data validation workshops for Dutch and Belgian data providers. The first training event will take place in Brussels (19-20 April 2007), and will be repeated in Amsterdam (26-27 April 2007).
Workshop content specifically aims at GBIF data providers and would-be data providers, who would like to improve the quality of their databases. The workshops will be managed by Arthur Chapman, an authority in the field of data quality and data validation. The training sessions will be conducted in English.
Chapman is author of GBIF documents on topics to be covered in the workshop:
- Uses of Primary Species-Occurrence Data
- Principles of Data Quality
- Principles and Methods of Data Cleaning
Another important document will be the BioGeomancer Guide to Georeferencing.
All four of these documents are available as PDF files, under Data Quality, Data Cleaning and Data Use on the GBIF website.
For more information, or to apply to attend one of the workshops, data providers or potential data providers in Belgium or the Netherlands may contact either the Belgian Node manager André Heughebaert before 1 April, or the Dutch Node manager Cees Hof before 13 April.
