Dr. Skovmand had the vision of a future of shared information that would help to eliminate duplication of effort and benefit people around the world.

In the spirit of this vision, he led the NGB to be the first international repository of agricultural genetic material to join GBIF, in March 2004.

Within days of his signing the MOU, the NGB was sharing nearly 30,000 biodiversity data records via the GBIF network.
