Each of GBIF's four Programmes (DADI, DIGIT, ECAT and OCB) has an advisory group that is considered a subcommittee of the Governing Board's Science Committee. Chairs of the Subcommittees serve as members of the Science Committee.

Each Science Subcommittee has as its objectives:

  1. To provide advice to the Programme Officer on the development and implementation of the GBIF work programme and its individual programme elements.
  2. To contribute to the setting of longer-term strategic directions for the work programme area.
  3. To consider the plans for the programme area and to make recommendations regarding them to the GBIF Science Committee.
  4. To address and provide information about the needs of stakeholders and to suggest ways in which the work programme can better align with stakeholders.
  5. To promote the GBIF work programme at various forums.
  6. To assist in reviewing progress toward planned outcomes of the GBIF work programme and suggest improvements.
SSC members are expected to engage in constructive work (N.B: these are not honorary appointments), and contribute and interact by participating in online discussions, attending meetings, helping to review proposals, etc. We would expect that this commitment would result in at least 1 day per month (equivalent) to be spent on SSC activities.

See the full call for nominations of Subcommittee members and the Terms of Reference for the Science Subcommittees.

Persons interested in being nominated should contact their country's GBIF Delegation, or an appropriate Associate Participant Organisation Delegation, by 6 January 2006. Contact information for the delegates can be found here.
