The 7th session of the GBIF Governing Board (October 2003) held in Japan approved the development of a new Demonstration Project as a component of the GBIF 2004 Work Programme.

GBIF intends to use the Demonstration Project for promotional purposes, to expand its membership and to assist in its fund raising activities. The goal is to fund a single, practical, useful, applicable, scalable and successful prototype project or proof of concept that showcases new biodiversity informatics approaches to a wide international community namely, scientific and research institutions, governmental and non-governmental organizations, biodiversity conservation bodies, as well as policy and decision-makers.

The call can be downloaded from: www.gbif.org/ocb/2004demo. Only GBIF Participants or persons who live in Participating countries/economic regions may submit proposals. Deadline is 30 July 2004. Questions related to the demo project should be sent to btorres@gbif.org.
