The Report on the Experts' Meeting is now available online. A white paper on the topic commissioned by GBIF in preparation for the meeting is also available.

More than 16 experts met in Madrid on 1-2 March 2004 to provide advice on four main themes that address issues related to providers and users of data, and also data-sharing with countries of origin. The report also includes the inputs and suggestions on the draft GBIF agreements on Data Use and Data Sharing to be used on the GBIF data portal. The most recent drafts of these agreements, in response to the input from the experts at the meeting, are contained as annexes at the end of the Report.

Recommendations of individual experts regarding future directions that GBIF might take in the areas of educating about and legal aspects of IPR in relation to GBIF are also included in the Report .
