At a recent meeting between uBio ( www.ubio.org ) and GBIF ( www.gbif.org ) at the GBIF Secretariat in Copenhagen, an initial agreement was reached to develop a collaborative effort in the compilation and utilization of nomenclature resources. This collaborative foundation could provide the basis for multiple, independent informatics initiatives within a unified infrastructure.

This collaboration will involve the planning and implementation of both a distributed name cataloging system as well as input, management, and utilization tools that exploit this resource.

A Memorandum of Cooperation between GBIF/ECAT and uBio will be developed in the near future and specific items and tasks outlined and assigned in a work plan.
