Background
Implementation of the GBIF network for making world's biodiversity data available on the Internet requires many development and support tasks. These include design of IT systems, computer programming, documentation, integration and packaging of software, distribution to nodes, and answering their questions of installing and use of the distributed tools.

Objective
This call is issued in order to create a shortlist of companies that would be available to assist the GBIF Secretariat to implement the GBIF network together with the Participants.
For each particular task, a restricted call for tender (RCFT) will be issued to the companies currently included in the shortlist. One or several companies will then be chosen to enter into a contract with the GBIF Secretariat to implement the task in part or wholly, as will be described in such calls.
Submission and deadlines
The initial deadline for submission to the first round of proposals and for forming the first shortlist is 2 July 2003 13:00:00 GMT+2.
After the initial deadline, this call for expression of interest will remain open and the shortlist will be effective until 28 February 2006. Tenders can be sent at any time, and new applicants will be considered and included in the shortlist before new RCFTs are made.
This news article abridged from the call and is for information only.
