News: Development underway on GBIF Harvesting and Indexing Toolkit

Development has started on the GBIF harvesting and indexing toolkit; a toolkit to simplify the job of harvesting datasources without the need for understanding the underlying protocols involved.

Key features of the tool include:

  • support for TAPIR, DiGIR, Biocase and OAI-PMH
  • easily extensible for new protocols (for example future versions of WFS)
  • synchronisation with UDDI registries
  • schedule management for repeated operations (monthly harvesting for example)
  • simple log viewing for determining problems with communication all from a web-based console.

By removing the need to write complex harvesting and scheduling software, this toolkit aims to enable application developers to concentrate on the specific needs of their application.
