NIC: Oral (Workshop) Presentations

Most workshop presentations at the 43rd National Immunization Conference are selected based on abstracts submitted prior to the deadline (November 14, 2008). Authors of abstracts were notified via email of acceptance decisions on December 29, 2008. If you submitted an abstract and have not yet received a decision notice, please contact the Conference Planning Team at 404-639-8225 or via email to NIPNIC@cdc.gov.

Please plan to meet your workshop moderator in your workshop room 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time of your workshop.

Please note that all workshop (and poster) presenters at the 43rd National Immunization Conference are required to register for the conference and pay normal registration fees.

Workshop/Breakout Schedule

A DRAFT schedule of workshops and other sessions to be offered at the 43rd National Immunization Conference is available for your reference. Content (speaker names, presentation titles) will continue to be added to the agenda as it becomes available.

Last Minute Speaker Changes

All presenters are asked to verify that the information included on our online draft conference agenda is correct, and notify us as soon as possible (no later than January 30, 2009) of any last-minute speaker changes. Speaker changes after this date will not be processed in advance of the conference — replacement and additional speakers will not have name tents or nametag ribbons available on-site, and their names will not appear in the conference agenda book.

Continuing Education

Continuing education credits will be provided. In order to offer credit for conference attendees, the Conference Planning Team must file an application, including biographical information and conflict-of-interest statements from all presenters. If we are missing this information from you, we will contact you to request it, and we appreciate your prompt response.

Presentation Length

All workshops at the 43rd National Immunization Conference are 60 minutes long. Typically, 2 or 3 abstracts are included in each workshop. The workshop begins with up to 5 minutes of introductions by the session moderator. Then, each abstract is allotted roughly 15 minutes for presentation. Finally, the last 10–15 minutes of the workshop are allocated for questions from the audience.

Audiovisual Equipment

A late-model multi-media Windows-based computer and an LCD projector will be available in every workshop room. Slide projectors and overhead projectors (and a very small number of TV/VCRs) can be made available upon request. Be sure to notify us  no later than February 22, 2009 if you will require anything other than an LCD projector for your presentation (via email to NIPNIC@cdc.gov or by phone at 404-639-8225).

Guidelines for Creating Slides

The following are some general guidelines for creating your slides. These guidelines are especially important if you would like for your presentation to be posted on the Internet after the Conference.

  • Consider including text describing each slide on the Notes page of your PowerPoint presentation. This will provide more information for readers who access your presentation on the Web and don't have the benefit of viewing or listening to your presentation in person.

  • Use a sans serif font such as Arial. We recommend the following font point sizes to improve the readability of your slides. This is especially important if you would like us to post your presentation on the Internet, because the actual text size that the web audience will be viewing is substantially smaller than what you see on your screen.

  • Title: 44 points.

  • First level bullet: 36 points.

  • Second level bullet: 32 points.

  • Third level bullet: 28 points.

  • Fourth level bullet: 24 points.

  • In charts, use a font size no smaller than 24 points.

Example of a bulleted text slide using the guidelines:

Title is 44 points, Text for first bullet is 36 points, second bullet is 32 points, third buller is 28 points, and fourth bullet is 24 points.
