Goal:  

Promote adoption of healthy dietary patterns and regular physical activity among individuals, families and communities based on key messages in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. (Use/adapt Team Nutrition, Loving Support, Eat Smart. Play Hard.TM, and other national resources whenever possible.)

To promote nutrition, physical activity, policy and environmental initiatives to enhance health and wellness for all Alabamians, with an emphasis on FNS populations.

Objective 1:

FNS food assistance programs will reach greater than 50% of the client populations with healthy eating and physical activity messages based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA).

Tactics:

  • Messages from the DGA will be shared with clients and eligible populations in a variety of settings via classes, individual contacts, mailings, newspaper articles, and radio PSAs.

  • Child Nutrition Program

Completion Date: September 30, 2007


Objective 2:

All FNS food assistance programs will conduct at least one fruit and vegetable promotion each year.

Tactics:

  • The 5-A-Day message will be presented via taste tests, classes, and individual contacts to clients and program eligibles in clinic, school, and public/community settings.
