A Day posters were distributed to
all food retailers authorized for
Food Stamps and WIC. Retailers were
asked to display the posters in the
stores in conjunction with 5 A Day
month.

Food
Stamp Program and Nutrition Services
Program staff at the state and local
levels helped to distribute 5 A Day
materials. 5 A Day posters were
placed in Department of Community
Based Services waiting areas, local
health departments and their service
off-sites, University of Kentucky
Cooperative Extension agencies,
Commodity Supplemental Food Program
sites, Kentucky Association of
Second Harvest Banks and elderly
feeding sites.

Posters
were distributed to all of the
summer feeding sites, Senior
Citizens Centers and State Prisons.

Nutrition
Services Branch staff worked with
the University of Kentucky
Cooperative Extension Staff to
coordinate training packets for
staff/sponsors that work with the
Summer Feeding Programs.

University
of Kentucky Cooperative Extension
continues to work on providing
education to 43 after school or
summer feeding programs on
increasing fruits and vegetables by
one serving, selecting water as a
drink and increasing physical
activity. Implementation began in
2004 in summer feeding sites through
a focus on increasing fruits and
vegetables.

University
of Kentucky Cooperative Extension
staff developed a training module
for the Literacy, Eating and
Activity for Preschool (LEAP)
program. EFNEP staff was trained
during the summer of 2004.
Implementation of the module began
in September 2004 and has continued
to be part of the preschool
curriculum.

The
Nutrition Services Branch added 5 A
Day as a nutrition program activity
for both community and clinical
nutrition education plans for all
local agencies.

The
45 health departments were trained
on the 5 A Day challenge. The
training included a 5 A Day
challenge as part of nutrition
efforts to promote eating 5 A Day to
local health department clients and
the community.

A Day Displays were developed and
are currently being used in Health
Fairs and other health organization
gatherings.

Nutrition
cards were developed by the
University of Kentucky Cooperative
Extension Staff and disseminated to
counties that had a Farmers' Market.

Spanish
speaking program assistants do
quarterly radio interviews
concerning nutrition education in
Central Kentucky. Bilingual staff
members were hired. The staff
members provided programs at local
radio stations targeting the
Hispanic population.

EFNEP
Providers in counties with an
established Farmers' Market held
Cooking Demonstrations using locally
grown produce.

Some
county EFNEP workers have been
trained to provide "Grow your
own Groceries"
