FOR RELEASE UPON RECEIPT
Hours Changing for Gate on Chantry Flat Road
ARCADIA, CA — July 31, 2008
The gate at the entrance to Chantry Flat Road will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., effective Friday, August 1, 2008. The coalition of agencies and municipalities that manage the road determined the change based on increasing fire danger and a history of human-caused fires in the area.
Chantry Flat Road (formally Santa Anita Canyon) accesses one of the most popular hiking and day-use recreation areas on the Angeles National Forest. While the gate itself falls under the jurisdiction of Sierra Madre, various sections of the road are located on Arcadia, Monrovia, Los Angeles County and national forest lands.
In April, the Santa Anita fire burned 584 acres, largely within Sierra Madre and the Angeles National Forest. The fire started in an area just off Chantry Flat Road above Arcadia.
